📋 Rules of Membership
Student Union Governance
🎓 Eligibility
Student members who are currently student members of specified recognized actuarial organizations are eligible for membership once their actuarial organization student membership has been verified:
Actuarial Organization Student Membership
Student members must hold current student membership with one of the following actuarial organizations:
- Actuarial Society of South Africa
- Actuaries Institute of Australia
- Canadian Institute of Actuaries
- Casualty Actuarial Society
- Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
- Institute of Actuaries of India
- Israel Association of Actuaries
- Society of Actuaries
- Society of Actuaries in Ireland
These organizations have been chosen because of their broad similarity and very significant examination requirements.
Actuarial Organization Verification Requirements
Verification of student actuarial organization membership requires the following evidence:
- Directory URL: Link to the relevant actuarial organization's member directory
- Directory Screenshot: Screenshot showing the student's membership listing in the organization's directory
- Invoice Documentation: Screenshot or PDF of invoice from the actuarial organization showing current student membership fees
This verification process protects the integrity of our student community and confirms genuine pursuit of actuarial qualifications.
💰 Prompt Payment of Fees
A continued condition of membership is that any fees due are paid promptly.

🤝 Community Standards
A continued condition of Student Union membership is that members agree to abide by the Student Community Standards:
- Professional Communication: Polite and professional discourse in all forums
- Academic Integrity: Taking responsibility for the accuracy of academic information shared and maintaining honest discussions
- Constructive Participation: Contributing positively to study groups, discussions, and the community knowledge base
- Privacy Respect: Honoring pseudonymous identities and not attempting to identify other students
- Professional Development: Using the platform for appropriate academic and career development content
- Appropriate AI Use: Using AI assistance responsibly for learning purposes
Students agree to maintain these standards in preparation for their future careers as qualified actuaries. These standards align with the Student Terms of Use requirements.
⚠️ Membership Termination
Student Union membership may be terminated in the following circumstances:
- Voluntary cancellation by the student
- Failure to maintain payment of membership fees
- Breach of Student Community Standards or Terms of Use
- Obtaining actuarial qualification (students must transition or terminate)
- Death of the member
🎯 Qualification Notification & Membership Transition
Students who obtain actuarial qualifications have specific obligations and options:
⚠️ Mandatory Notification Requirement
- Immediate Notification: Students must notify the Secretariat promptly upon obtaining actuarial qualification
- Eligibility Cessation: Qualified actuaries are no longer eligible for Student Union membership
- Contact: Notify students@inqa.com as soon as practicable upon qualification
- No Refunds: Since subscriptions are non-refundable, no refund will be given for any remaining Student Union membership term
- Service Continuation: Access to Student Union services continues (except upon reaching qualified actuary status) until the end of the current paid subscription period
- Transition Period: Use remaining subscription fee value towards transition to qualified actuary membership if desired
Students may apply for qualified actuary membership with International Qualified Actuaries Group Limited:
- Separate application and verification process required
- Different terms and pricing apply
- Forum history preserved but access rules may change

🔒 Privacy and Pseudonymous Participation
Pseudonymous Forum Participation: Students participate in forums using pseudonymous identities to protect academic and career privacy while enabling honest discussion of challenges and concerns.
Identity Protection: Real identities are never disclosed in forum discussions, maintaining a safe space for academic and professional development.
🏢 Service Provider
The Student Union is a service provided by InQA Limited, acting as Secretariat to the Student Union and to International Qualified Actuaries Group Limited. The Student Union is not a separate company and does not have articles of association. All Student Union services and governance are provided under the authority of InQA Limited.
